Teachers are often the first to see who we might become before we can see it ourselves. They plant ideas that take root and grow. Eventually, those ideas shape the way we think, learn, and move through the world long after graduation.

This month, we are celebrating those extraordinary teachers whose impact does not end with the final bell, but continues to echo through every life they have helped shape.

This message comes from Conner C. at Organ Mountain High School.

Flashback Friday takes us all the way back to 1929 at Las Cruces Union High School. One of the oldest photos in our collection captures the Bulldawg basketball team during an incredible run, winning four straight games at the district tournament in Deming. This marked their third consecutive Southwestern New Mexico tournament title, capped with a 14 to 23 victory over Deming.

From the yearbook itself: “the hilarious good time had by all who attended made us a jolly bunch for sometime after.”

Congrats to Leah Pacheco, LCPS Athlete of the Week from LCHS. The junior Bulldawgs pitcher continues to dominate in the circle, highlighted by a seven-pitch inning against Alamogordo where she allowed just one baserunner. She’s held opponents to one or fewer earned runs in three straight outings.

LCPS Presents the 2026 Tell the Story Film Showcase: Superheroes Take the Screen

Las Cruces Public Schools invites the LCPS community to experience the excitement of the 2026 Tell the Story Film Showcase, a two-night celebration of student filmmaking that promises creativity and imagination. The theme this year is “Superheroes.”

The annual film showcase shines a spotlight on the incredible storytelling talents of students from elementary through high school. In each division, students are given specific creative challenges, including required lines and props, all within a limited timeframe. The result is a collection of innovative, entertaining, and often surprising films that highlight both teamwork and artistic vision.

The 2026 Tell the Story Film Showcase will be at Cineport 10 Allen Theatres, 700 S. Telshor Blvd., on Wednesday, April 29 & Thursday, April 30. The red-carpet walk will begin at 5:00 p.m. Screenings for student films will follow throughout the evening at 6:00 p.m., 7:00 p.m., and 8:00 p.m., offering audiences a front-row seat to a wide range of original student productions.

Non-competitive student films will be shown on night one, while the second night will feature films submitted for the student competition.

The competition includes three fast-paced and creative divisions:
• 168-Hour Film Competition (Elementary School)
• 98-Hour Film Competition (Middle School)
• 48-Hour Film Competition (High School)

The 2026 Tell the Story LCPS Film Showcase is proudly sponsored by Allen Theatres and the LCPS Foundation. For additional details, including a full schedule of screenings, please refer to the attached invitation and program.

From the 1962 yearbook at Las Cruces High School, the FFA (Future Farmers of America) group stands as part of a proud and enduring tradition. That year, these students earned multiple awards at the State Fair in Albuquerque, showcasing their skill, dedication, and deep roots in agricultural excellence.

Today, the strong FFA program at LCHS continues that legacy, preparing students for leadership, hands-on learning, and success in agriculture and beyond, just as it did more than 60 years ago.
